Pedigree

Maël is my keeper from Tini’s litter out of the lovely MBISS GCH Maverick Diablo, aka Rafael. I bred to Rafa seeking bone, substance, and finish, and definitely got that and some more. Maël (litter name Lamian) and his brother Ramen (now Nash) were the two standouts, and I decided to keep the smooth while Nash went to a fantastic show and performance home.

Maël is a fun guy with a big sense of humor and a great personality. He has what I was looking for when breeding to Rafa: bone, substance, and a definite improvement in head virtues. Maël is normal/unaffected by the MDR1 mutation, a goal I aim to maintain in my breeding program. His pedigree traces back to many iconic dogs, including CCA RWD and AOM GCHB Wyndlair Point Given, CCA BOV and AOM GCH Maverick Painted Lady, and CCA Select Bitch and Westminster BOV GCHB Maverick Fanfare.

Maël finished his championship a couple days shy of 8 months, gathering a majority of his points at specialties under respected breeder judges. He also placed in the NOHS group during his second weekend out. I am extremely excited about his future and cannot wait to see him mature fully.

In the summer of 2023, Maël was started on livestock at the 2023 Rancho Terra Norte Herding Symposium, under the guidance of French judge and professional shepherd Benoit Voisin. He unofficially passed the French NHAT herding aptitude test. Maël shows good drive and appropriate pressure on his stock and is quick to find balance. He is gritty and won’t hesitate to put himself between stock and fences. I will be putting more effort into his herding training once he matures mentally, but my instructor Jackie Tinker of Arcadia Stockdogs has expressed that he has a tremendous amount of promise.

Maël has an extremely high level of drive for a collie. He is a natural jumper, with tremendous forward focus and momentum. This dog is FAST and craves work. He has a natural ability for agility, and I hope to be able to handle him to his full potential.

Maël started his performance career with a bang by getting a 96/100 on his first trial at the 2024 national. The next day, he tied with 3 other dogs with a 99, and WON a huge Rally Novice B class at the national under esteemed judge Cynthia Rustad. I will forever remember her comment: “It looked like you two were dancing out there!”

Maël is brilliant but still prone to young boy brain. I have waited a good time to seriously start trialling him so that he would have time to mature physically and mentally. He earned his last Novice Q in November 2024 and snatched an Advanced A Q as a move up. We got another Advanced Q in April 2025, but pieces were still missing in our teamwork. After working on engagement and focus, Maël and I made a splash in Hutchinson KS after earning a perfect score of 100, a 99 and a 90 to finish his Rally Intermediate title, and a final 100 to snatch that last Advanced A qualifying score he needed for his Advanced title. I love spending time in the ring with him as he reminds me so much of his “spirit mother,” my mutt mutt Auriga.

Maël and I are setting our sights on rally excellent and novice obedience and agility titles for the next year.
